Who We Are

Our Origin - Sunrise Rural Development Society (SRDS)

Sunrise Rural Development Society (SRDS) was established in 2006 as a not-for-profit organization under the Madhya Pradesh Societies Registration Act, rooted in the tribal and rural landscape of Shahpur, District Betul (Madhya Pradesh).

SRDS was founded with a clear and compelling belief that sustainable rural development can only be achieved when communities themselves become the drivers of change. Emerging from the lived realities of rural and tribal families, the organization was envisioned as a platform to address the deep-rooted challenges of poverty, unemployment, migration and limited access to opportunities.

From its inception, SRDS adopted a community-led and participatory approach, working closely with local people to understand their needs and co-create solutions. The journey began with mobilizing rural women into Self Help Groups (SHGs), creating a strong foundation for financial inclusion, collective action, and grassroots leadership.

About
5k+ Experienced Volunteer

Over the years, SRDS has evolved from a small community initiative into a multi-dimensional rural development organization, expanding its work across key thematic areas such as:

  • Natural resource management
  • Skill development and youth empowerment
  • Sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture
  • Livelihood promotion and enterprise development
  • Women-led institutions and collective enterprises

The organization strongly believes in self-reliance, dignity and collective growth, and continuously works towards strengthening community-based institutions like SHGs( Self Help Groups ), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and Community-Based Groups (CBG ). These institutions serve as vehicles for long-term, sustainable change at the grassroots level.

Recognizing the complexity of rural development challenges—including climate change, economic vulnerability, and social inequality—SRDS has adopted a systems approach with strong partnerships. The organization works in close collaboration with government departments, financial institutions, and development agencies to ensure convergence, scalability, and sustainability of its interventions.

Over time, SRDS has emerged as a trusted grassroots institution, playing a significant role in promoting women-led development models, strengthening rural livelihoods, and building resilient community ecosystems.

Today, SRDS continues its journey with a strong commitment to creating empowered, self-reliant, and resilient rural communities, where every individual—especially women and youth—has access to opportunities, resources and a dignified quality of life.

Our Team

At Sunrise Rural Development Society (SRDS), our team is committed to strengthening the capacities of rural and tribal communities so that they can achieve sustainable and dignified livelihoods. Our work is driven by a strong belief that real and lasting change happens when dedicated professionals work closely with communities and enable them to lead their own development journey. SRDS works through field-based teams that engage directly with communities at the village level. These teams work closely with women, farmers, and youth, ensuring continuous interaction, understanding of local needs, and participatory planning. Our Team consists of grassroots development professionals, community mobilizers, field facilitators, and experts in agriculture, livelihoods and rural development. The Team also includes Trainers who support skill development and capacity building at the community level. We do not work for communities — we work with them as Partners. Our team promotes and strengthens Self Help Groups (SHGs), supports Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), enhances livelihood opportunities and connects communities with government schemes and financial services. Through strong field engagement and community partnerships, our team continues to work towards building self-reliant, resilient, and empowered rural communities.
